Power corrupts. But more importantly, the institution of power always
leads to its corruption, because those who are already corrupt are attracted
to profitably manipulating that institution — maximizing and holding
on to their gains. Often this means literal profit from power. In every
nation, business
and government
are
tangled
together,
intertwined in a web of favors, payoffs, incentives, and interference,
known by many
names (including mercantilism, corporatism, and fascism) but often by
just one: corruption.
ASEE exposes examples of the corruption of governmental education
in America, including specific cases of abuse and racism in public
schools, and problems created by the interference of federal agencies
such as the NEA.
This major US advocacy group exposes more than honest waste and inefficiency.
Bloated government exists because politicians and bureaucrats very
often won't relinquish any expenditure because it would decrease their
own power and importance, which leads to a great amount of deceit.
This is the number one watchdog group on US government waste, a resource
for information on abuses of the financial trust in that government.
This watchdog group pursues legal remedy against alleged government
corruption (sometimes quixotically), including cases at the highest
levels of American government (often using the Freedom of Information
Act), if only to raise public awareness and let officials know they
won't be allowed to sweep their actions under the rug.
This "independent voice for American taxpayers" works
to expose inefficient uses for taxpayer money in the US. They have
a list of successes accumulated through working through public policy
lobbying, but it's clear there is a lot of resistance in government
agencies to giving up the influence and favors that go along with bloated
budgets.
The TAG project investigates, studies, monitors, and exposes corruption
in the Philippines.
